To perform an I Ching coin toss:

0. Have your question ready, which should be as specific and as narrow as possible.(preferably on a piece of paper!)

1. Use three coins of same Size & Value(1 cents are great!),

Assign heads a value of 3 and tails a value of 2.

2. Toss all three coins at once(In your hands, or on a desk),

Add the values of the coins(6/7/8/9).

3. Write down the sum from each toss in sequence,

doing this six times to form a hexagram. (e.g., 777767, 888898,

999868, etc.)

4. From the bottom up, draw your hexagram:

solid line for (7/9), broken line for (6/8).

5. Note any 6s or 9s; they indicate changing lines, crucial for insights.

Draw the Changed Hexagram: Convert the 6s (broken lines) to solid lines, and the 9s (solid lines) to broken lines; the 7s and 8s remain unchanged.

6. Refer to the 64 Hexagrams to find your hexagram's meaning and advice. If there’re no changing lines, the Primary Hexagram’s Overall Fortune is the insight to focus on.

How to Interpret Your Hexagram:

Present vs. Future: The Primary Hexagram’s Fortune shows now(often reflects your current situation); Changed Hexagram’s Fortune suggests future possibilities based on your present path or choice. Think about how they connect to your question.

No Changing line: Consult the Overall Fortune for guidance.

  1. Changing line: Focus on the Changing Line’s Fortune for insight.

  2. Changing lines: Look at both lines, but focus on the upper line.

  3. Changing Lines: Consider both Overall Fortune, but focus on the Primary Hexagram.

  4. Changing Lines: Read the Unchanged Lines Fortune in the Changed Hexagram, focus on the lower line.

  5. Changing Lines: Read the single Unchanged Line’s Fortune in the Changed Hexagram is the key.

  6. Changing Lines: This is very rate, but when all lines change, consult 'Root of Yang' and 'Root of Yin' for Qian【乾】 and Kun【坤】, plus the Changed Hexagram's insights for future outcomes.
